What to Expect in a Reiki Session
Many people wonder exactly what to expect in a reiki session. Let’s first talk about choosing the type of reiki you would like and deciding on a practitioner. There are different types of Reiki. Many people do not know this or know the differences between the different types of Reiki. Not all of them have the exact same way of performing a session. Here are three different types of Reiki you can choose from. These are the forms of Reiki that I have been certified in and practice.
- Usui Reiki 1- Master
- Laser Reiki 1-6
- Karuna Holy Fire Reiki
There are other kinds of Reiki and energy healing modalities out there and they all are beneficial in their own way.
4 Things you need to know before your session.
- Being on time is important for you both. If you cannot make it be sure and let the practitioner know as soon as you know. That gives them the opportunity to give their time slot to someone else if it is possible.
- It is also important to be hydrated. Drink water both before and after your session. Reiki breaks up energy blockages and being well-hydrated helps flush them out of your system.
- You will be asked to fill out some paperwork to help the practitioner get to know you better. It will also let them know how to best serve you during your session.
- Some practitioners use essential oils in a diffuser so be sure and let them know of any allergies ahead of time if that could be of concern to you.
Two types of Reiki sessions
In this article, I will talk about the in-person session. This is where you would go to the practitioner, or they would come to you. Most often a massage table is used. They will have you lay on the table fully clothed and I like to keep my clients comfortable so I have a variety of pillows and a blanket available. I also play calming Reiki healing music throughout the session. I have an essential oils diffuser that I use for relaxation or depending on the purpose of the session and what my client is looking to get from our time together. Some oils have healing properties, for example, Lavender oil is known for addressing blocked communication, fear of rejection, and feeling unseen or unheard. Lavender oil calms insecurities when one risks their true thoughts. I do my best to find one that is beneficial to my client and their needs.
- Hands-on healing- This is where Reiki practitioners lay their hands on you while flowing Ki (spiritually guided life energy). They have been taught hand positioning for optimal results of many different health concerns as well as guided to use their intuition throughout the process. In some areas of the country, only licensed medical doctors or nurses, or massage therapists can legally touch the client’s body physically. This is where distant healing comes in.
- Distant healing the practitioner will hold their hand above the body as the energy flows without any physical contact. Here is a link to explain in greater detail what reiki is and how it works.https://holisticenergyspecialist.com/blog/what-is-reiki/
You as the client will be resting on the table during the process. You could feel many different things or nothing at all, however, the reiki life force energy is working. The practitioner has no way of knowing beyond holding intentions where the energy is flowing. It is ultimately guided by a higher source of energy for your highest and best. You can talk during your session if you feel the need. It is also acceptable to be very quiet and still and go within and feel the energies. Some people become emotional during a session, and this is completely ok. If you feel tears let them release. I promise you. You are not alone; it has happened to many of us. It is blockages within the body releasing and allowing your energy to flow once again.
Can I bring Crystals to my session?
You may want to bring healing crystals to your session that you feel called to. Crystals can amplify the healing energy and provide additional support for your energy system. They are believed to emit specific frequencies that can resonate with your energy field, helping to restore balance and blockages. Often your practitioner has crystals as well so no need to run out and buy them if you are not called to it. You can discuss this in advance when choosing a practitioner as well if it feels in alignment with you and your goals for an outcome.
Next, I will talk about distance reiki sessions and answer the question What if I don’t feel anything?
